Donald Trump Jr told Senate investigators Thursday morning that he only met with Russians in that now-infamous June, 2016 meeting at Trump Tower to obtain information about Hillary Clinton's "fitness" for office.

Special counsel Robert Mueller is investigating that meeting, also attended by Trump's son-in-law and campaign chairman.

"After perfunctory greetings, the lawyer began telling the group very generally something about individuals connected to Russian Federation supporting or funding Democratic Presidential Candidate Hillary Clinton or the Democratic National Committee", Trump Jr. said.

July 23, 2017: Both Trump Jr. and Manafort came to an agreement with the Senate Judiciary Committee to hand over documents "and be interviewed.prior to a public hearing", ABC News reported.

Trump Jr. also was expected to appear before the Senate Intelligence Committee at some point.

The lawyer, Natalia Veselnitskaya, was at the time lobbying for the removal of USA sanctions on Russia; those sanctions had prompted Russian President Vladimir Putin to ban all American adoptions of Russian children in retaliation.

Grassley's panel is investigating a number of issues linked to the Russian interference campaign, including "attempts to influence US elections" and whether there have been any violations of foreign lobbying laws.

Congressional investigations of Russian meddling in the USA election likely will be extended - perhaps into next year - because of revelations during Congress' August recess about Trump associates' contacts and meetings, Democrats on the Senate and House intelligence committees said Tuesday.

President Donald Trump's eldest son has left Capitol Hill after speaking with Senate investigators for about five hours. The session was not classified and Trump Jr. was not under oath. The interview was being conducted by staff, but a handful of Democratic senators attended.

"This is obviously very high level and sensitive information but is part of Russian Federation and its government's support for Mr. Trump", the intermediary wrote. Besides the Trump Tower meeting, Mr. Blumenthal said the staff would question Mr. Trump on the Trump Organization's financial dealings with the Russians and on his father's decision to fire Mr. Comey.

"As will become clear, I did not collude with any foreign government and do not know of anyone who did", the statement said, promising to "set forth the sum and substance" of what happened at that meeting.

Trump Jr. expressed that he had some misgivings about the meeting that Goldstone had organized, and went in with a great degree of skepticism. But the Senate judiciary committee has ramped up its own inquiries in recent months.

This failure to share information on various aspects of the probe has occurred even though Mueller privately met with leaders of the main three congressional committees investigating the Russian election meddling, in an effort to avoid conflicts with each other, according to CNN.
