The new headquarters is expected to come with $5 billion worth of investment and will create up to 50,000 jobs, with an average salary north of $100,000.

Amazon's existing headquarters is located in Seattle.

The rapidly growing company is soliciting bids for the project, dubbed Amazon's "HQ2," and said it would prioritize metropolitan areas with more than one million people that are within 45 minutes of an global airport and near a strong university system. Amazon claims that the city has an economic contribution of $1.40 for every $1 invested into the campus, which amounted to $38 billion from 2010 to 2016 alone. While the company has based itself in the heart of Seattle, where employees have access to bars, restaurants and dog-walking services, Amazon said it would consider a suburban location but said a multi-building layout similar to its Seattle home was also possible.

The company, which now employs 380,000 people, has already announced plans to create 130,000 U.S.jobs through mid-2018 and expand its network of warehouses.

Amazon's Seattle headquarters employs 40,000 people in over 8 million square feet just north of the city's downtown area, according to USA Today. The company also recently completed its acquisition of upscale grocery chain Whole Foods.
