Confirmed Cases of Mosquito-borne Diseases in South Georgia

Usually little more than a nuisance, certain mosquitos can carry the more serious risk of West Nile virus.

According to a Logan City press release, the Bear River Health Department recommends Cache Valley residents apply DEET mosquito repellent and wear long sleeves and trousers from dusk till dawn.

The Public Health Agency of Canada estimates that an additional 18,000 to 27,000 human cases may have occurred and gone unreported, since most West Nile cases are asymptomatic.

In 2016, MS had 43 West Nile Virus cases and two deaths.
