Following months of heavy speculation surrounding his future at the Camp Nou, Neymar eventually completed a world-record, 222 million Euro transfer from Barca to French outfit Paris Saint-Germain two weeks ago.

Neymar makes his mark in Brazil, joining Santos in 2009 and as the club celebrates 100 years, he meets Pele.

The statement says the fee relates to a loyalty bonus payment when he signed a five-year contract renewal in October 2016.

Barcelona have filed the case with the Spanish Football Federation and are expecting them to take a fair decision on the case with considerations of both FIFA and the French Football Federation.

Paris Saint-Germain released a statement Tuesday saying they are "surprised" that Barcelona have taken legal action against Neymar for breach of contract.

Barcelona continue to express their public disagreement after the player paid the buy-out clause to end the contract unilaterally.

Neymar left Barcelona for PSG on August 3 in a €222 million (£197.3 million/$257 million) transfer. Barcelona is also demanding 8.5 million Euros in damages as well as an additional 10 percent for the delayed payment.

The club added it is seeking to "protect its interests" after Neymar's departure so soon after signing a new deal. "I am getting better physically and I can still improve yet", the 25-year-old said.

Neymar, who played a part in four of PSG's six goals in a 6-2 win over Toulouse over the weekend, made fierce criticisms of his former employers after the game. I spent four handsome years there and I parted happy. For me, they shouldn't be in charge of Barca. "I have a lot of friends there, I hope things get better for Barca and that they go back to being a team that can compete".

"Barca deserve much more, and everyone knows that".
