It meant new boss Pellegrino launched his Southampton career looking to avoid an unwanted club record of six successive home games without scoring.

Southampton's boss Mauricio Pellegrino has stated after a disappointing draw against Swansea City, that the fans are suffering the most when the biggest stars of the teams are ineligible for the matches.

Yet, with just over two weeks of the transfer window remaining, van Dijk will begin to stress over whether or not he'll get his move and Southampton believes the 2018 FIFA World Cup in Russian Federation will influence the defender's decision. "It happens and we have to keep going".

At least Clement could take heart from Abraham's first Premier League start, with the 19-year-old leading the line willingly despite the lack of support he needed to seriously trouble Southampton.

Southampton fans have been reacting on Twitter to Dusan Tadic's performance in the opening day clash with Swansea City, and it is safe to say that the supporters are extremely divided regarding the Serbian's display.

Swansea were mired in a Premier League relegation fight for much of last season, with Clement's arrival in January the turning point in their campaign.

"It's something that we have to continue working on, and keep going, but in parallel I am really happy with the performance", said Pellegrino.

As a result, it's clear to see that Matthews will be expected to assume No. 1 receiver duties upon his arrival. Not coincidentally, Jim Schwartz was the defensive coordinator in Buffalo for Darby's rookie season.

"I don't really understand why it goes to the end of August".

The new season offered little to be excited about from an attacking perspective as Swansea only managed two shots - neither on target - in the entire 90 minutes at St Mary's.

"We are pleased we have got out of here with a draw". We controlled the ball, created chances but this is football - you have to get goals and we couldn't do so.

"As a manager, you can work on the way to create chances, on the way to control the game, but to have the courage to score goals is something that is hard".

Swansea boss Paul Clement said: "It was a hard afternoon, they had a massive amount of chances, set-play after set-play and we suffered at times".

Swansea have also been through their own transfer saga this summer with their best player Gylfi Sigurdsson. "I'm sure they will be disappointed and think "how have we not won".
