After this week's election, incumbent President Uhuru Kenyatta's opponent Raila Odinga claimed that early electronic election results were hacked.

Provisional tallies released by the electoral commission so far show Kenyatta with a nine-point lead on Odinga.

At least six people have been killed in protest violence, Aljazeera reports, and onlookers fear a repeat of post-2007 election violence which saw over 1000 people killed in the months following the elections.

Odinga claims that hackers infiltrated the commission's computer system with the identity of a murdered election official and altered results to favour the 55-year-old Kenyatta, the son of Kenya's first president after independence from British colonial rule. "But we believe that the election's commission in Kenya has put together a process that will allow each and every vote's integrity to be proven", Kerry said, adding that there were "little aberrations here and there".

Musalia Mudavadi claimed to have gathered "complete data" from the election commission indicating "the actual presidential election results contained in their database".

Worldwide observers have given the election a broad thumbs up.

The European Union election observer mission in Kenya said on Thursday it had seen no signs of "centralised or localised manipulation" of the voting process.

Former South African President Thabo Mbeki, who is heading the AU observer mission, said the voting process was peaceful and the ongoing tallying process is open and transparent. It's important they have the time to do these procedures well.

The various observer missions monitoring the elections in Kenya have called for peace in that country.

Since the commission began publishing the results, Kenyatta has maintained the 10 percentage lead, contrary to pre-poll predictions that the two candidates were heading for a photo-finish.

Nevertheless, the opposition's declaration of victory prompted groups of Odinga supporters to break into celebration in small pockets across Kenya, once again sparking fear that clashes between police and opposition supporters could break out.

Opposition leader Mr Odinga is a left-wing former political prisoner who unsuccessfully used the courts to contest his defeat in the last presidential election in 2013. "There's at least one little shop that has been destroyed", Eyder said.
