Eagles Acquire CB Ronald Darby In A Trade From The Bills

Earlier Friday, the Bills traded wide receiver Sammy Watkins and a sixth-round pick in next year's draft to the Los Angeles Rams for cornerback E.J. Gaines and a 2018 second-round pick. As a result, it's clear to see that Matthews will be expected to assume No. 1 receiver duties upon his arrival.

Matthews' now former quarterback shared a touching tribute following the trade. According to the Eagles, he was one of only five receivers in the league with at least 65 receptions and 800 receiving yards in each of his first three seasons. Of course, Agholor will have to avoid a repeat of last year's disastrous performance to help replace Matthews' production alongside free-agent signees Alshon Jeffery and Torrey Smith. Since the Eagles drafted him in the second round of the 2014 draft out of Vanderbilt, Matthews has piled up 225 catches for 2,673 yards and 19 touchdowns. He has 137 tackles, 33 pass deflections and 2 interceptions in 29 games.

The control over a young player was important to Roseman in the trade.

Darby was a five-star recruit out of Potomac High School in Oxon Hill, Maryland, considered the best player in the state of Maryland and by some services as the top cornerback prospect.

Not coincidentally, Jim Schwartz was the defensive coordinator in Buffalo for Darby's rookie season. But it hurts when people you care about leave. I think we have a really good group, a character group, not only at the wide receiver position but on this team and on the offensive side of the ball. But like so many other players that were members of the Buffalo Bills in recent years, the new regime chose to make them available.
