The Ohio case was the first in a series of off-field incidents involving Elliott in his first year after the Cowboys made him the fourth overall pick in the 2016 draft.

The move came after a yearlong league investigation into claims he abused his then-girlfriend in OH in 2016.

As Pro Football Talk pointed out, the NFL's Personal Conduct Policy has a baseline suspension of six games for domestic violence incidents, though the league has been known to institute lesser penalties depending on the circumstances.

In the past, Elliott, the 22-year-old running back has found himself in minor trouble.

The suspension is scheduled to begin September 2 and Elliott is eligible to return to the Cowboys' roster on October 23, one day after the team's Week 7 road game against the San Francisco 49ers.

Amber Alert Issued for Missing 3-Year-Old in Worcester
Police were able to ping Rickheit's phone and discovered that it was last in the Charlton area before being powered off. Trooper Keller Williams smashed one of the car's windows so the mother and daughter could be pulled out.

McFadden missed all of 2016 training camp and most of last season to an elbow injury, but the Cowboys still favored him over Morris when he returned. His representatives released a statement, via NFL Network, saying they plan to appeal the decision, and provided the reasons why.

In a statement, the league said investigators interviewed more than a dozen witnesses, consulted with medical experts and examined photographic and digital evidence. In the meantime, he is allowed to be a part of preseason practices and games.

USA TODAY Sports does not identify alleged victims of domestic violence. A complaint filed in OH also shows texts from Elliott's ex asking a friend to tell police she was pulled out of a auto. 158 of those yards came against the New York Giants.

The NFL has long had a clear policy regarding the punishment for drug violations, but there was inconsistency surrounding the punishments for other offenses.

The league also reviewed videos and photos of Elliott pulling down a woman's shirt, which exposed her breast, during a St. Patrick's Day parade rooftop party in March. And in July, he was involved in an altercation at a Dallas nightclub during which a DJ's nose was broken.
