Gov. Mark Dayton, who like Mr. Ellison is a member of the Minnesota DFL, said on Sunday that the attack on the Bloomington Islamic center is "an act of terrorism" and a hate crime.

The attack at the Dar Al Farooq center, which primarily serves Somali members, occured at 5 a.m. Saturday as people gathered for morning prayers. He also tweeted that we need to be "strong," and later told Fox & Friends these terrorist attacks had happened because we are "weak".

"Someone threw an explosive device and started a fire in the office of the Imam and President of the mosque", the Muslim American Society of Minnesota said, according to NBC News.

"What a bad, dastardly, cowardly, awful act this was that was committed", Dayton said in a news conference.

The Muslim American Society of Minnesota is now offering a $10,000 reward for anyone that can provide information that would lead to the arrest and conviction of the bomber.

Though several have expressed commentary on the subject, a statement from President Trump and his administration was noticeably missing. Most local media outlets and law enforcement aren't calling it terrorism at this point, either.

The attack invoked an immediate response from neighbors in the local Bloomington community and throughout the Minneapolis-St.

Police say there is some damage to the building, including a broken window on the outside.

The White House had been silent on the bombing.

"A May analysis by the Council on American-Islamic Relations found 2,213 anti-Muslim bias incidents in the United States past year, up 57 percent from 2015". Special Agent in Charge Richard Thornton spoke to reporters about the incident, as noted by StarTribune.

Trump has used Twitter, his preferred platform for communicating with the American people, to comment on a number of issues since Saturday morning, but he has not addressed the bombing of the Dar Al-Farooq Islamic Center, where several people were gathering for prayer.

Mr. Gorka said that there have been a series of alleged hate crimes in recent months that have "actually been "propagated by the left".

When asked by KSTP-TV whether the Federal Bureau of Investigation considers the attack a hate crime, Thornton responded: "We simply don't know that at this point".

"An attack on a mosque is an attack on a synagogue, an attack on a church, an attack on all communities of faith", said the Rev. Curtiss DeYoung, head of the Minnesota Council of Churches.

"Just hold your horses, count to ten, and the President will do what he deems fit", he said.
