Up to 46 wounded as heavy explosion rocks Lahore city in Pakistan

It is important to mention here that residents of the area have alleged that police were informed about the suspicious vehicle, which was parked for three days, but no action was taken.

American nationals should stay away from the area in the city of Lahore, Pakistan, where a bomb blast wounded scores of people earlier on Monday, according to the US State Department.

Initial investigations suggest that the blast was caused due to an improvised explosive device (IED) in the truck.

"The explosive material was planted inside a truck which was loaded with fruit", said Abdullah Khan Sumbal, a top government official in Lahore.

The injured have been moved to a nearby hospital, 12 of whom were released following a basic first aid, however, four people are said to be critical.

It has also been reported that the blast was of such an intensity that it damaged windows of nearby buildings and and vehicles in its vicinity.

On July 24, a Taliban suicide bomber struck a police team near residence-cum-office of Punjab Chief Minister Shahbaz Sharif here, killing 27 people, including policemen.
