India won by an innings and 53 runs after dismissing Sri Lanka for 386.

Jadeja's splendid all round performance in the second Test will not be repeated in the third Test as he has been suspended for the final Test after being found guilty of breaching article 2.2.8 of the player's code of conduct which deals with "throwing a ball (or any other item of cricket equipment such as a water bottle) at or near a Player, Player Support Personnel, Umpire, Match Referee or any other third person in an inappropriate and/or risky manner during an International Match". The batsman was caught at slip off Jadeja's left-arm spin.

Last October, Jadeja had received two informal warnings and one official warning for running on the pitch before encroaching for a fourth time in a match that also had Oxenford involved. "Mendis has been a brilliant player in his small career", said Dickwella.

Commenting on the series win he said, "We are playing Tests at worldwide level and we expect teams to play like (Sri Lanka did). We are happy that we went through the hard place; helps you not get complacent as a side".
