Andy Murray knocked out of Wimbledon in quarter-finals

A tearful Murray was beaten in four sets that day but has since triumphed twice, in 2013 and previous year, with his hopes of a third success alive heading into Wednesday's quarter-finals. The end was brutal, Querrey running through Murray to record a 3-6, 6-4, 6-7, 6-1, 6-1 win. "It's unfortunate I have to finish Wimbledon like this", said Djokovic after his first Grand Slam retirement since the 2009 Australian Open quarter-finals.

Throughout the tournament I've been a little bit sore but I tried my best, right to the end I gave everything I had, and I'm proud about that but it's obviously disappointing to lose.

American Sam Querrey sent shockwaves through Wimbledon after defeating world No. 1 and fan favorite Andy Murray Wednesday in quarterfinal play.

"Querrey has had some long matches but he has a day off tomorrow to ensure an easy day and then get ready for Friday".

Querrey will face 2014 US Open champion Marin Cilic for a spot in the final, five years after the Croatian beat him 17-15 in the fifth set at Wimbledon.

A year after ending Novak Djokovic's incredible streak of 30 straight wins at majors, Querrey has defeated the World No. 1 and Wimbledon defending champion for the second year in a row, this time against Andy Murray. There's obviously an opportunity there so I'm sad that it's over. "I'm just thrilled right now", Querrey said afterwards. "Still a huge match in front of me and in front of Roger, as well". However the American bounced back to take the second set 6-4 and draw level in the match.

Tim Henman claims that Andy Murray's hip injury has "deteriorated" following his quarter-final exit at Wimbledon. By the final two sets, it often seemed his best hope was to call for replay challenges, few of which went in his favor.

"I think it's going to be loud, noisy, but I expect Murray, although he may drop a set, to come through". I kept swinging away.

"I beg your pardon?", the journalist responded, not appearing to understand what the sportsman said.

Andy Murray slammed the "unfair" Wimbledon scheduling as top women players were shunted onto the outside courts on "Manic Monday" - while the big four of men's tennis took centre-stage. Maybe I could have got the match done in three sets there.

"I'm sure moving forward I'll be able to get through it (the hip problem)".

Murray has been more effective on his second serve this year, though, winning 66 per cent of points, up from 61.5 in the early rounds last year and 54.4 in 2013.
