AN outlaw bikie has been shot dead in what is believed to be a revenge attack over a wild State of Origin night gang brawl on the Tweed.

Phil Becker, 33, was nabbed by Queensland police in the early hours of Tuesday morning after a joint operation with NSW detectives led officers to his auto at a service station at Jimboomba, southwest of Brisbane.

He has been formally identified as 31-year-old, Ace Hall.

The shooting has sparked fears of a new wave of bikie violence on the Gold Coast and has alarmed Queensland police and community leaders.

NSW detectives are expected to apply for his extradition in Southport Magistrates Court later today.

Starling said the shooting victim, who was "known to police", was dropped at Tweed Heads hospital on Saturday by a woman who was now among witnesses being interviewed.
