Romero has struggled for form since winning the 2008 Zurich Classic of New Orleans and has slumped to 837th in the world rankings, but he can now look forward to a healthy European Tour exemption after his outstanding final round at the Golfclub Munchen Eichenried.

Detry made the first move, with five birdies on the front nine to briefly take the lead.

Stalter (68) soon joined him for a share of the lead and both are bidding for their first European Tour title.

And after carding five birdies and two bogeys in his first 14 holes, Masters champion Garcia picked up further shots at the 15th and 17th to join Bland at the summit on 13 under par.

Detry posted a closing 66 to set the target at 16 under but when Garcia three-putted the 16th and Bland missed the green on the next, the door was open for Romero.

Already with two significant victories to his name this year, including his breakthrough major win at Augusta National, Garcia added a third round of 67 to be tied in the lead with England's Richard Brand as the flagship event on Germany heads into tomorrow's final round.

Manchester United Is A 'Tempting Invitation' For Monaco Star Fabinho
Unsurprisingly, Manchester United cropped up as a topic and Fabinho was asked what Man United shirt he would wear next season. Talking to Esporte Interativo in Brazil, the versatile midfielder claimed: " Manchester United are a big temptation".

Shortly before, Garcia had missed a par putt of three feet at the 16th, while Bland bogeyed the 17th having pushed his approach shot a long way right of the green.

He was playing in the final pairing of the day alongside Garcia, who was competing in Europe for the first time since he won the Masters in April.

But it was in the second round that he gave away too many shots despite holing six birdies. "I'll just try to play solid like I've been playing every day, shoot another good score and see where that puts me".

In-form Englishman Tommy Fleetwood finished four shots behind Romero on -13, alongside Renato Paratore of Italy, while Sweden's Rikard Karlberg was just above them on the final leaderboard on -14.

"I felt like I played quite well, not spectacular, but very consistent throughout the whole day".

Romero said of his stunning success: "I'm really, really happy".
