Eid al-Fitr celebrations bring out thousands in Ottawa

The White House's tradition of holding an annual iftar dinner for Eid al-Fitr, which marks the end of Ramadan, began under the Clinton administration, which first hosted the event in 1996.

Eid-ul-fitr has a particular Salat (Islamic prayer) and is usually, offered, in an open field by the Muslim communities.

But much of the world had no such wait.

The festival marks the culmination of fasting and holy month of Ramzan.
