Seattle police say a 30-year-old woman was shot and killed after authorities responded to a burglary call at her home.

Lyles called 911 to report an attempted burglary, and two police officers responded to her call around 10 a.m. The audio indicates the officers told Ms Lyles to "get back" prior to shooting her.

In the recording - issued by Seattle police - officers can be heard shouting, "Hey!"

At one point, Lyles says, "Get ready motherf***ers", according to a transcript of the tape provided by Seattle police. Lyles family reports that she had been dealing with mental health issues throughout the pregnancy and had been anxious that officers were coming to take away her other children, one of whom has Down syndrome. It turns out that Lyles was shot inside her apartment after she let the police inside.

Lyles' family says the shooting was unnecessary and that Lyles suffered from mental health issues.

"There's no way you could've taken a Taser and taken her down?"

Lyles' brother, Domico Jones, told KOMO: "They came here multiple times, so I know that they had to have known anything that was wrong with her".

The two officers involved have been placed on administrative leave.

Lyles' family condemned the police's decision to shoot, claiming that the use of deadly force was "unnecessary" as police could easily have restrained Lyles, who was "physically tiny".

Shortly after, the situation escalates and an officer is heard stating "We need help".

Charleena Lyles was fatally shot by Seattle police.

Near the beginning of a roughly four-minute police audio recording of the incident and before they reached the apartment, the officers discussed an "officer safety caution" about the address involving the previous law enforcement interaction. Lyles then can be heard calmly talking with officers about what was taken from the fourth-floor apartment, including an Xbox video game device.

A Department of Justice investigation in 2012 found that the Seattle Police department regularly used excessive force on the job however, a federal monitoring report in April 2017 showed that the department use of force incidents by officers had decreased since the investigation, Seattle Times reported.

Lyles was black, and Isabell said he's frustrated with police killing black people across the country.

The recent shooting of African-American Charleena Lyles by Seattle police on Sunday triggered a huge outcry among citizens with many branding the incident as an act of racism.

Lyles's family believes that race played a major role in her fatal shooting.

One officer suddenly says, "Step back, step back!" She pleaded not guilty to two counts harassment and obstructing a police officer at her arraignment the next day.

"This event has traumatized the family, our residents, staff and the broader community".

Three of Lyles' four children were in the apartment when she was shot.
