Germaine De Randamie Releases Statement On Featherweight Title Situation

The bout was announced this morning along with the news that Germaine de Randamie had been stripped of the title following her refusal to take a fight with Cyborg.

After winning the inagural women's featherweight title in February, Germaine de Randamie has been stripped of the belt with UFC giving Cris "Cyborg" Justino her shot against Megan Anderson at UFC 214.

After she gave up on the idea of an immediate fight with De Randamie though, "Cyborg" began campaigning the UFC to make a fight between her and Australia's Anderson, who was more than willing to face the feared 31-year-old veteran.

'UFC maintains that any champion is expected to accept fights against the top contenders in their respective weight classes in order to maintain the integrity of the sport'.

Justino (17-1, 1 NC), regarded as one of the top and fiercest women's fighters of all time, hasn't fought since knocking out Lina Lansberg in September.

Ariel Helwani of MMA Fighting had reported the Cyborg vs. Anderson fight was happening.

Despite the UFC officially adding a 145-pound female weight class, there's been little evidence it is actually interested in building it. Anderson believes she'll provide a clearer outlook on the division July 29, win or lose.

She was just the second-ever Dutch Ultimate Fighting Championship titlist and the inaugural UFC women's featherweight champion. That I'm stripped does not mean I'm going to stop. "As dominant as she's been, she doesn't have the other aspects it takes for that. I do". In the last week of May, the situation intensified, as de Randamie outright refused to fight Justino, stating through her management that she felt Justino was both a past and present steroid user and that she shouldn't be allowed to fight in the UFC at all. If that fight happens at UFC 214, I want to shock the world because everyone thinks I'm not at that level and I'm not capable of beating her and she's just this machine.

"We're the best featherweights in the world", Anderson said.

The event is headlined by a light heavyweight championship bout between current title holder Daniel Cormier and former champ Jon Jones.
