QUEEN'S BIRTHDAY HONOURS: Islip woman humbled by award

FIGURES from the world of sport, education, business and charity in Northern Ireland have all been honoured in Queen Elizabeth's birthday honours list.

Bernard Kenny receives the George Medal for trying to stop MP Jo Cox's killer, a year on from the murder - Berndard tried to stop Thomas Mair attacking MP Jo Cox outside her constituency surgery in Yorkshire.

Most of the awards go to those who carry out community and charity work, many with young people.

PC Palmer, who was tragically murdered during the Westminster terror attack, was also recognised for his incredibly courageous actions in the Queen's birthday honours list.

Among the Indian-origin Commanders of the Order of the British Empire (CBE), include Aisha Kulwant Gill, Professor of Criminology, University of Roehampton, for services to tackling forced marriage, honour crimes and violence against women.

All team members received MBEs for their gold medals in the New Year's honours list - now their coach, the most successful in the history of modern British hockey, has been rightly honoured.

Gracehill man James Perry has also been honoured with an MBE.
