Family: Michigan native shot multiple times in chest, arm

Tyson Foods employee Matt Mika was shot in Alexandria, Va., Wednesday morning at the scene of a Congressional baseball practice and was listed in critical condition.

Three Republican members of Michigan's congressional delegation were among lawmakers who were practicing baseball when a gunman opened fire at the field in suburban Washington. A public event that had been scheduled for President Trump at the Labor Department on Wednesday afternoon was canceled.

DETROIT (AP) - Relatives of a MI native shot during a Republican baseball practice outside Washington say he suffered multiple gunshot wounds to his chest and arm, and is in critical condition.

"He is grateful for the courageous actions of U.S. Capitol Police, first responders, and colleagues", Scalise's office said in a statement. The family says that Mika has been alert, conscious, and has been able to communicate through notes.

In a statement, Tyson Foods told the Washington Post, "We're awaiting word on his condition. Matt has worked for Tyson Foods for more than six years and we're deeply concerned about him and his family".
