President Trump Nominated Jessica Rosenworcel to Return to FCC

The reason Rosenworcel is not now an FCC commissioner is because Republicans in Congress blocked her re-nomination by failing to hold hearings.

The Trump administration has indicated that it plans to renominate Jessica Rosenworcel to the Federal Communications Commission, after withdrawing her nomination earlier this year.

Rosenworcel, a Democrat, was re-nominated by Obama in January of 2017 to serve another term, after Senate lawmakers failed to extend her term before Congress adjourned at the end of past year. The Senate would likely take up the nominations of Rosenworcel and a Republican at the same time in order to let Republicans maintain their one-vote majority.

In recent weeks, there has been speculation that Trump would nominate Rosenworcel, in an agreement with Senate Democrats.

Some agency watchers wonder whether President Trump nominated Rosenworcel in anticipation of a change later this month when the term of the term of the FCC's lone Democrat, Mignon Clyburn, expires. "Upon her official nomination, ACA encourages the Senate to confirm her quickly". But no Republican candidate has been announced yet. That left the FCC with three members - two Republicans and one Democrat - and two vacancies: one for each party.

Copps is both Rosenworcel's former boss and colleague as FCC commissioner and chairman.

Democrats insisted Republicans had agreed in 2015 to reconfirm Rosenworcel as part of a deal to confirm O'Rielly. "She has shined a spotlight on the need to eliminate the homework gap to ensure America's students have access to the digital tools to help them succeed in school". That didn't happen. Now, some are wondering if Rosenworcel will be put up for a vote by the Senate without a Republican nominee.

"This appointment rights a wrong, because she deserved confirmation past year, and should have been sitting on the commission all along".

But there have been increased rumblings in DC circles that she's looking to leave at the end of June. "She has a distinguished record of public service, including the four-and-a-half years we worked together at this agency, and I look forward to working with her once again to advance the public interest".

"We congratulate Jessica Rosenworcel and look forward to working closely to promote competition and fairness to all Americans", the group's president, Gene Kimmelman, said Wednesday.

When the election results came in and it became clear there would be a Republican president and a Republican majority Congress, Wheeler tried to broker that deal - his scalp for her renomination - but failed.
