"It's a feeling that's impossible to describe", Nadal was quoted as saying by French Open website.

He defeated the Swiss tennis ace 6-2, 6-3 and 6-1.

Nadal's ascendency to his 10th French Open title was never in doubt after the first serve of the match. Nadal said when he first won the title in 2005 he would not have imagined he would still be playing in 2017, let alone winning, and said 10 titles had a special ring to it.

"For me this event is the most important one of the year and I have more pressure on me, but it is not just about the four grand slams", he said.

This title, an unprecedented 10th at a single grand slam in the professional era, was arguably the most impressive of his 15 though as it arrived three injury-plagued years after the last one, without dropping a set and conceding only 35 games in seven matches.

"It's hard to describe how I'm feeling; all I can say is "thank you".

The Spaniard beat 2015 Roland Garros champion Wawrinka 6-2 6-3 6-1 to eclipse Pete Sampras on the all-time list of major champions with 15 titles - second only to Roger Federer's 18 titles.

The third set was more of the same, and Nadal dominated it.

He struggled ion front of Nadal on Sunday.

Wawrinka was in the match for all five games, as the pair exchanged holds before Nadal's unmatched power saw him earn his first break of the contest for 4-2 in the opener.

"For sure this score wasn't good, the match wasn't good, but at the end of the day there's a lot of positives to take from the last few weeks", Wawrinka said.

An unseeded player has not won the French Open since 1933. "I am in a good position". He won all 12 service games, made a mere 12 unforced errors, and won 94 total points to Wawrinka's 57.

"I feel that I have been playing well since the start of this season and it has been very special".

"If he continues at this level - it's not easy of course winning Grand Slams, but today he won, and he has options at Wimbledon. It's really a joy and a privilege to watch him play this sport".

- Nadal is one set away from his 10th title at Roland Garros after taking a 6-2 6-3 lead against Wawrinka.

Regardless, Nadal may not be the dominant, world-beating player he once was, but it's nice to see he can still hit that high gear at his favorite tournament. Nadal powered his way to a 3-0 lead in the second and consolidated the break easily, without even being pushed to deuce.

"From the beginning I didn't play my best tennis". You play final of Grand Slam, you don't want to lose.

"It's always been an honor to play against you", Wawrinka told Nadal as he addressed the crowd.
