A Nebraska family says they are outraged after their 8-year-old daughter, who has short hair, was disqualified from a soccer tournament because organizers insisted she was a boy.

Hernandez's team, the all-female Azzurri Achurros, won two of three tournament games on Saturday, and were headed to the finals on Sunday when Hernandez was told that the team had been disqualified because the Achurros had a boy on the team-simply because Hernandez has a pixie-length haircut.

On Tuesday the organizers released a statement to WOWT 6 claiming that a typo on the roster led to the team's disqualification.

Hernandez even showed tournament officials his daughter's health insurance card in an effort to prove her gender, but they refused to accept it.

Wambach's one-time national team colleague and fellow USA legend Mia Hamm also invited Hernandez to one of her soccer camps. "They made her cry", Mili's father, Gerardo Hernandez, told CNN affiliate WOWT.

Mili Hernandez, is a standout player on the Omaha Azzuri Cachorros girls club team.

"Just because I look like a boy doesn't mean I am a boy", she said.

Having taken 62 balls to reach his fifty, Williamson kicked on and took just another 34 to bring up his ninth ODI hundred. Opting to bat first, the Blackcaps got off to a confident start except for the early dismissal of Martin Guptill .

Mili Hernandez won't let others' poor judgement keep her off the soccer field. "They don't have a reason to kick the whole club out". "However, it is important to note that the roster submitted to the state by the club identified this player as male, and the competition rules for U.S. Youth Soccer do not allow boys to play on a girls' team".

"When my hair starts to grow I put it short because I've always had short hair", she said.

Mili Hernandez cuts her hair short because she doesn't like her hair long.

The state association said it did not oversee the Springfield tournament, but that it will work directly with clubs and tournament officials to ensure nothing like this happens again.

Milagros "Mili" Hernandez loves soccer, and she's good at it.

"Mili, don't EVER let anyone tell you that you aren't ideal just as you are".

"Nebraska State Soccer does not run the tournament, nor is it involved in any of the decisions the tournament makes with regards to rules, players, or teams ..." its statement reads.
