Less than two weeks after a suicide bomber killed 22 and injured scores more at an Ariana Grade concert in Manchester, Islamic terrorists killed seven and injured another 48 people during an attack on London Bridge.

President Donald Trump for a second day lashed out at London's mayor on Twitter in the wake of a deadly terror attack in the city.

Mr Trump had written: "Pathetic excuse by London Mayor Sadiq Khan who had to think fast on his 'no reason to be alarmed" statement.

While addressing the incident, Sadiq Khan, the mayor of London, reassured his citizens that an increased police presence didn't mean that there was a reason to be alarmed.

Mr Khan's spokesperson had described the first round of presidential tweets as "ill-informed" - and said they had deliberately taken his remarks out of context.

This appeared to have rankled the notoriously thin skinned President, who added to his criticism this afternoon.

There are many things about which Donald TrumpDonald TrumpLondon mayor calls for cancellation of Trump visit to UK Dan Rather: "Trump's response to London attack "careless" Qatar split raises problems for United States with Iran, ISIS MORE is wrong". "MSM is working hard to sell it!"

But British prime minister Theresa May said Khan was doing a "good job", echoing public sentiment across London.

After his election a year ago, Khan tweeted criticism of then-candidate Trump's rhetoric, saying his "ignorant view of Islam could make both our countries less safe".

The U.S. Conference of Mayors, whose membership includes the more that 1,400 U.S. cities with populations of 30,000 or more, said it "stands united" with Khan. "We are not going to let Donald Trump divide our communities", The Independent quoted Khan, as saying, while he addressed the media at the Tower Bridge last night.

Though Clinton did not name Trump particularly, her comments seemed to reference the president's tweets.

In the past, Khan has also criticized President Trump for his views.

It came after Khan was accused of giving "pathetic" excuses in an extraordinary broadside from US President Donald Trump.

They said of Mr Khan: "He has risen above this crisis of death and destruction, as mayors continue to do, to alleviate fear, to bring comfort to his people of London and to give support to the first responders who continue to protect, defend and provide emergency care to his people of London".

May, the Conservative Party leader, was asked earlier on Monday about Trump's criticism of Khan."I think Sadiq Khan is doing a good job and it is wrong to say anything else", she said.

Asked what it would take for her to publicly criticize the US President, May suggested that she "was not afraid" to speak out when Trump "gets things wrong".
