Microsoft Apologises for Accidental Release of Internal Windows 10 Builds

In the meantime, Microsoft clarified that it's not planning to release any new preview builds this week.

But while some PCs were able to install the build, phones were not, causing the device to crash upon booting up, leaving users with no option other than to restore through the Windows Device Recovery Tool. The same happened with this faulty build and the members of Windows 10 Insider Program automatically updated and bricked their PC/laptops.

Following the blunder, Microsoft's Windows Insiders program head, Dona Sarkar issued a statement saying, "Builds from some of our internal branches were accidentally released for PC and Mobile".

"This build will *not* install on your device", Sakar says.

"And if the build is ready to be installed, try setting your device's time to 2050 and that should cancel the build's installation". The internal builds managed to make their way on to end user devices due to, "an inadvertent deployment to the engineering system that controls which builds/which rings to push out to insiders". If you are one of the users who has already updated the internal build 16212, Microsoft has issued the following advice. She further added, "We apologize for this inconvenience and thank you for being a Windows Insider".

Windows Insiders hoping for a more stable new build have a while longer to wait as Microsoft says it won't be rolling out any new releases today.

Microsoft also released an Xbox Build to Windows 10 Mobile devices yesterday and from IoT too. The team was quick to revert the deployment and put blocks in place to stop these builds from going out to more people.

According to Sarkar, Microsoft has fixed their mistakes and their analysis "shows only a small portion of folks got these builds". After the mix-up, officials said they would not be releasing any new builds this week after all. The company didn't go into specifics, but anyone concerned about the ramifications of installing this build can just roll back to a previous version of Windows 10, provided they do so within the next 10 days and haven't run Disk Cleanup. If you have installed, reset with WDRT.
