National Doughnut Day is celebrated annually on the first Friday in June, stemming from a tradition that started with women Salvation Army volunteers who passed out doughnuts to tired soldiers on the front lines during World War 1.

At Dunkin Donuts, you can get a free donut with the purchase of any drink (so not a completely free donut).

The Salvation Army has been associated with donuts since World War 1 - it all started on the battlefields of France in 1917, when Salvation Army "lassies" (young female Salvationists) used make shift arrangements to prepare fresh donuts for the troops.

The holiday is celebrated on the first Friday in June each year, which this year falls on June 2, 2017.

At Lamar's Donuts, all customers will get a free donut and cup of coffee.

That's right, June 2 marks one of the sweetest (pun intended) days on the calendar.
