Katie Hopkins is leaving LBC with immediate effect

Today LBC said Hopkins had agreed to leave the station.

According to BBC's media editor Amol Rajan, there were "massive cheers and applause" from her colleagues in the newsroom.

A former competitor on the BBC show The Apprentice, Hopkins has been a hugely controversial figure in the United Kingdom in recent years with many of her twitter comments causing anger and dismay.

Complaints were made to the Metropolitan police about the tweet. Compliments & me are like Corbyn and common sense. Do not be a part of the problem. "We need a final solution #Machester (sic)".

The radio station announced in a message online, "LBC and Katie Hopkins have agreed that Katie will leave LBC effective immediately".

After Katie made the comments, LBC radio presenter James O'Brien described the "shame" he felt about sharing the platform with her. The Met's Contact Centre Twitter account confirming that complaints had been received and would be "assessed by specialist officers".

Following her comment Holocaust Memorial Day Trust's Chief Executive Olivia Marks-Woldman criticised her "offensive and divisive language". I'm going to get locked up, I've been put under investigation this week for my tweets.

Since the announcement, Hopkins has been tweeting consistently as before, but not mentioning her departure.

The former Apprentice contestant deleted the tweet and replaced it with an edited version which spoke of a "true solution", but the original tweet had already sparked a firestorm of accusations that Hopkins was advocating genocide.

A controversial United Kingdom broadcaster once dubbed "Britain's most hated woman" has been fired from her radio show after tweeting "we need a final solution" in response to the Manchester bombings.

Hopkins added in another post: "typo / wording amended".
