Top Gun 2 is 'definitely happening', says Tom Cruise

Top Gun celebrated its 30th anniversary previous year and it was one of the films that made Tom Cruise a household name.

"Top Gun" celebrated its 31st anniversary in the U.S. May 16.

While talking with Australian morning show, Sunrise, Cruise dropped the danger-zone bomb that the movie is going to start filming "in the next year".

"It's true. Yes. You know what, I'm gonna start filming it probably in the next year", Cruise said, practically beaming as he made the announcement.

"It is definitely happening", he said on Seven's Sunrise program. When asked if the rumors were true, Cruise responded, "Yes, it's true". Rest assured, he wants everyone to know "it is definitely happening".

Cruise is now doing a press tour for his upcoming film for Universal Pictures, The Mummy. There was also that mysterious meet-up between Cruise and film producer Jerry Bruckheimer.

"You're the first people I've said it to, you asked me and so I'm telling you", the star added.

Hey, Top Gun fans, you're in luck, because Maverick is coming back!

"We're trying to figure it out", Cruise clarified in a subsequent appearance on the Graham Norton Show. The movie was nominated for multiple Oscars, winning Best Music, Original Song for "Take My Breath Away".
