Sinkhole forms near Trump's Mar-a-Lago

The town of Palm Beach reported Monday that a sinkhole had formed directly in front of Mar-a-Lago, President Donald J. Trump's Florida residence.

The town of Palm Beach released a short statement about the collapse on its website, blaming it on a newly installed water main.

Others questioned if the sinkhole hadn't been mistaken for something else.

Fix crews are working to clear an area in front of Mar-a-Lago where a sinkhole appeared.

The area has been secured, Palm Beach said in an alert, and workers are expected to perform "exploratory excavation" on Monday.

Since the election, the cost of membership at Mar-a-Lago has doubled to $200,000.

Trump is in the Middle East right now but has spent almost a quarter of his presidency at the resort in Florida.

It is not clear what caused the sinkhole to open up outside Mar-a-Lago over the weekend although a traffic alert notes it is near a new waterpipe.
