Then-FBI Director James Comey testified in front of the Senate Judiciary Committee during an oversight hearing earlier this month before he was sacked by President Trump.

The US president flew out to Saudi Arabia as a separate report claimed one of his White House colleagues is being targeted by the FBI in their investigation into alleged links between Trump's campaign team and the Kremlin. Mark Warner, announced Friday that Comey will testify in an open setting before the committee.

Mr Comey was sacked by Donald Trump last week.

A separate report from The New York Times, also published on Friday, said Trump told Russian officials last week that Comey was a "real nut job" and that firing him had relieved him of pressure over the investigation. "By grandstanding and politicizing the investigation into Russia's actions, James Comey created unnecessary pressure on our ability to engage and negotiate with Russian Federation", he said.

Since Comey was abruptly fired by Donald Trump, reports have surfaced suggesting a tense relationship between the former Federal Bureau of Investigation director and the president. A memo reportedly written by Comey was subsequently leaked, and it revealed that the president had asked Comey to end the investigation into former national security adviser Michael Flynn's ties to Russian Federation.

In response, Sen. Martin Heinrich (D-NM), asked this question: "What's worse: President admitting Comey was sacked over Russian Federation, or Spicer justifying it?"

During a news conference at the White House Thursday, Trump rejected any suggestions that he tried to interfere with the investigation. He was insane, a real nut job.

The Washington Post reported that investigators have identified a current White House aide as a person of interest in the Russian Federation investigation. President Trump gave classified information to the Russians. Deputy Attorney General Rod Rosenstein reportedly informed members of Congress of this on Friday, according to McClatchy.
