BMW Confirms Reborn 8 Series For 2018

The 6-Series nameplate has been a part of BMW's lineup for more than 40 years, although it took a almost 15 year hiatus from 1989 to 2003.

Just like its bigger brother, the refreshed 4 Series, BMW's Life Cycle Impulse for the 2 Series family is all about subtle changes both inside and out.

Two new blues and a deep metallic orange have been added to the standard range of paint colours, and you now have 17 different rim designs to choose from, in 17, 18, and 19 inch diameters, depending on how bone-jarring a ride up with which you are prepared to put.

Those wanting a BMW two-door will need to either select the brand's i8 hybrid sports auto or step down to the 4-Series coupe. The luxury duo replaces the 6-Series Coupe and Convertible, not exactly runaway successes for Munich since their 2013 launch.

Look at the new 5-Series and you'll notice a new face, the new headlights, which are now fused with the kidney-grille; the vent behind the front wheel arch, à la the new 7-Series is new; and the tighter, more muscular flanks give it a sportier stance. Sport models also get a high-gloss black border to the aforementioned air intake.

Djokovic eases into quarter-finals of Madrid Open
The two time champion saved the only break point he conceded to Lopez, who was playing in the tournament for a record 16th time. The women's draw saw Romania's Simona Halep, the defending champion, move into the semi-finals.

An extensive range of three, four and six cylinder petrols and diesels feature, all of which are fitted with BMW'S "EfficientDynamics" turbo system that provides performance whilst remaining frugal.

Upgrades in the cabin are carried over from the 1 Series updates. Wireless induction phone charging is optional, while Apple CarPlay can be accessed via a BMW navigation system. Transmission duties on all the aforementioned trims will be handled by an eight speed automatic transmission.

It seems likely that BMW will reposition the 6 Series from being a Grand Tourer in to something which can challenge cars like the Mercedes AMG GT and the Porsche 911, which sounds as appealing a prospect as the new 8 Series. Their three-litre straight-six engine with direct injection and M Performance TwinPower Turbo technology develops 250 kW/340 hp, propelling the BMW M240i xDrive Coupe, for instance, from 0 to 100 km/h (62 mph) in 4.4 seconds (fuel consumption combined: 7.4 l/100 km [38.2 mpg imp], Carbon dioxide emissions combined: 169 g/km)*.
