Winter Weather Advisory issued for NC mountains — FIRST ALERT WEATHER

Highs on Tuesday and Wednesday will reach the 50s.

Tuesday features a 20 percent chance for snow, with cloudy skies, a high near 34 and northwest winds around 10 miles per hour.

A winter weather advisory has been issued for the northern two-thirds of the state starting at noon Monday. Road conditions (especially main roads) should improve gradually as snow tapers into Monday afternoon and plows get moving.

"This storm will be stronger than the one expected to move through the mid-Atlantic Sunday night into Monday", AccuWeather Meteorologist Steve D. Travis said.

East to northeast winds of 15 to 30 miles per hour were forecast for the area, with isolated gusts of 40 to 50 miles per hour, according to the NWS. Chance of precipitation is 80 percent.

It was a chilly start to the Monday morning, with temperatures beginning in the low-30s. Lows remain in the mid 20's with a gusty wind.

Tuesday: Rain likely, possibly mixed with snow, mainly before 3pm. South wind 5 to 8 miles per hour. New snow accumulation of around an inch possible.

Saturday Night: Mostly cloudy. Southwest wind around 8 miles per hour. Northwest wind 6 to 10 miles per hour.

"Again, flurries and very light accumulation is expected Tuesday and Wednesday, but it's safe to say that winter is back", Roche added.

Thursday: Mostly sunny, with a high near 35. Overnight lows will dip to the single digits.
